The Academy
Founded in Tokyo in 1997 by Takamasa Watanabe, Axis teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in direct lineage from Rickson Gracie. One academy, one standard of practice, open to beginners and visiting black belts alike.
What we teach
Gi, competition team, open mat Saturdays. First-day beginners to visiting black belts.
Adults program → Program 02Ages 6 to 12. Discipline, movement, respect — age-appropriate technique in a safe, structured room.
Kids program → Program 03A separate program led by Sensei Taka Watanabe. Scenario-based. No sparring required.
Women's program →From the mat
The pace is patient and the technique is deep. I came in with twenty years off the mat and nobody tried to prove a point.
My daughter joined the kids class in April. Six months in she can tie her own belt and she listens the first time.
A friend recommended the women's class. The instructor explains every drill from zero. I never felt behind.
